The Vail-Leavitt Music Hall is downstate New York's oldest theater - operated for community benefit by a 501(c)3 charitable corporation. Its long,rich history includes early experiments in talking films by Thomas Edison, and currently serves as both a rental venue and a presenting venue for the performing arts.

The Vail-Leavitt Music Hall presents:
100th Anniversary of Thomas Edison's Kinetophone at the Music Hall

    Celebrate "Retro-Tech" with the Vail!! This special event salutes Edison's kinetophone,
    an early form of synchronized sound and film and exhibited only at a limited number
    of venues during 1913-1914. Vail-Leavitt Music Hall (under it's 1914 name "Lyceum")
    is the last known surviving exhibition site in the world. Presentations will include:
         * archival photos and artifacts
         * informative and educational presentations
         * live recording utilizing historic methods including cutting lathe, wire recorder and more.
   Featured presenters include Art Shifrin, internationally recognized expert on audio and film
   restorations.  Mr. Shifrin is recognized as the world's leading expert on kinetophone
   and has kindly agreed to bring digital copies of his work and archives for exhibit at this event.
